Flash for Cash Scam - 7th January 2014
There has been a steady increase in the amount of 'crash scams' being reported to the insurance industry.

We are making our clients aware of a new insurance scam where offenders flash their lights to let a driver out a junction then deliberately crash into them. ‘Flash for Cash’ as it has become known is a new scam that is loosely based on the other ‘Crash for Cash’ in which the offender suddenly brakes hard and the victim is forced to crash into the back of the offenders vehicle. The Flash for Cash scam is harder to defend as it is often the innocent driver’s word against that of the offender, and the road traffic act clearly states that the driver must give way to traffic on the main road when emerging from a junction RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 16.

‘It is clear that this is becoming a bigger problem on our roads and clients should make their employees aware of the danger that this sort of scams pose to drivers’ said David Penny our Senior Consultant.
